Notes from 2/6/2009

I'm sleepier than shit. I'm at work. That's a terrible mix. I was thinking while searching for documents about sleep. I wonder if anyone who has fallen asleep at work has ever done so with the end of their nose accidentally on the 'z' key, causing it to fill their Microsoft Word page with an endless string of 'zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...'

Hey Cameron...is this a test to see who reads you and who's memory may be better? 'Cause you bought The Bell Curve around turkey-day, and, if I recall, found a card or letter inside (acting as a bookmark) from the previous owner. (?)

Oh, man, that's funny. I was actually online the other day and visiting the site from which I buy lots of my books. It's called thriftbooks.com, and it's pretty useful from time to time. Anyway, I went so far as to put The Bell Curve into my cart, completely ignorant to the fact that I'd already bought it.

My folks came up from San Antonio yesterday to help my pack my books for storage while I'm in Ecuador. As we went through, I found the book we're discussing, and by then had already forgotten my post from Friday. Oy vey.

I noticed your message on the way out the door, and was thinking about it while heading to meet up with some friends for lunch. I was wondering what might have caused my forgetfulness. I think I realized the root of it. The book that I got from thriftbooks.com was a hardback. That's not sufficient for me to have forgotten buying the thing. The rub is that the book, which was used to say the least, came without a cover. Therefore, the front of the copy that I have is a two tone, with about an inch and a half black along the spine, the rest an off-white. I think when I bought The Bell Curve, I was also buying the image that accompanied it. When this "thing" showed up, I hadn't been sufficiently served in the way that I expected. My mental imagery checklist hadn't been satisfied.

Or maybe I just forgot. Good eye, though.
